EVANSDALE, Iowa — Evansdale police and firefighters are searching for two girls who were last seen shortly after noon Friday.

Authorities said they found the girls’ bicycles behind Meyers Lake and put search boats on the water as a precaution at about 4 p.m.

“We don’t want to panic people, but we don’t want to leave a stone unturned,” said Kent Smock, Evansdale’s police and fire chief.

Smock said the girls, ages 8 and 10 years old, were last seen at about 12:30 p.m. in the downtown area.

Both girls were riding bicycles in Evansdale, and the bicycles were located along the bike trail at Meyers Lake.

Elizabeth Collins, 8, is approximately 4 feet 6 inches tall, 80 pounds with brown hair.

Lyric Cook, 10, is approximately 4 feet 10 inches tall, stocky build with light brown hair.

Anyone having information on the whereabouts of these two missing girls or having seen these two girls after 12:15 p.m. Friday is asked to call the Evansdale Police Department at            319-232-6682      .

People who are interested in helping with the search effort can meet at the Community Response Center (911 S. Evans Rd.) at 8:00a.m. on Saturday. Searchers should wear proper attire including hiking shoes/boots, long pants, long sleeve shirts, hats/caps and bug screen. Volunteers will help search the wooded areas nearby.

Search volunteers are still needed! Volunteers 18 years old or older are asked to meet at the Community Response Center at 911 S. Evans Road. All areas already covered will be combed again.
