Nathan Dental Surgery Recovery

Nathan Dental Surgery Recovery 1

This month, Nathan had his second surgery. While both were oral surgeries, this one was a bit longer and with different anesthesia, etc. After a regular dental checkup, it was discovered that both twins likely have cavities on the interior sections of their teeth;think where teeth touch teeth. A bit heartbroken, our dentist told me that premature babies are more likely to have cavities than full-term babies, no matter what care we take for their teeth. As a mom with dental issues that were birth defects, I’m a bit overprotective about my children’s teeth.

As a mom with dental issues that were birth defects, I’m a bit overprotective about my children’s teeth. I did do some online research and found a few resources about premature children and dental problems.

We headed off early in the morning, trying to avoid any chances of Nate wanting to eat or drink. I kept him pretty distracted up until right before it was time and he saw someone walk past his room with food.

During surgery, they did have to come out to tell me that it would be in his best interest to cap his front teeth. I gave my okay for the go ahead and prepared to be waiting a bit longer than planned for my baby boy to come back out to me. When his dentist finally came out to talk to me about things, my mind was set at ease about things for him. When Nathan came back from recovery, my poor little guy was definitely out of it.

Overall, once he got home, he did much better. We’ve had soreness here and there but we were able to control it at home. As a little guy with sensory processing that primarily impacts his mouth, I was a worried mommy 😉

Now, Nathan is having fun showing off his “Hollywood teeth” as I’ve teased him.

While surgery is over for Nathan, it is likely this same surgery will be planned for Lucas.

  2. Aw, poor little guy! Glad to hear his surgery went well, though. It can definitely be scary for a little one to have surgery sometimes, but they have a way of keeping up good spirits! Hope he’s feeling better!

  3. I’m so glad to hear that Nathan’s mother is much protective with her son’s teeth and I think all the parents should be like this. Also I’m glad to hear that Nathan recovered himself from his oral surgery.

  4. Nathan seems very well mannered. When I was a kid I would be very ornery after procedures like this. Thanks for writing!
