Happy Friday, friends! If you’ve been holding off on your back-to-school hauls, this is our moment. Iowa’s annual Sales Tax Holiday is officially happening right now—today, August 7th, through midnight on Saturday, August 8th.
I’m finalizing the game plan to make sure my three are completely outfitted for the new school year. Before we all hit the stores, here is a quick refresher on how to maximize your savings this weekend.
? What’s Included
The rules are pretty straightforward, but it’s important to know the limits before heading to the register:

Everyday Clothing & Shoes: Any standard article of clothing or pair of shoes priced under $100 is exempt from state and local sales tax.

The Per-Item Rule: The $100 threshold applies per item, not to your entire cart. So, you can buy five $30 shirts and three $40 pairs of jeans, and they will all be tax-free.
? What’s Excluded
Don’t get caught off guard at checkout! The state does not include everything you might wear. The following items will still be taxed:

Accessories: Watches, jewelry, and handkerchiefs are not eligible.

Specialty Gear: Sporting equipment and footwear designed specifically for athletic activity or protective use (like football cleats or shin guards) are excluded from the holiday.
