When you were looking to purchase your first home, scouring the listings on the internet for homes in New Jersey, was a garage something you were looking for? Well if it wasn’t a must have on the wish list for your new home, it should have been. Garages today are much more than just a place to park your car. They can be used as a workspace, an extra spot for storage, a home gym, and so much more! With that being said, in order to use your garage to its full potential you need to make sure you are utilizing the space properly. Here are some tips for making the most out of that garage you just had to have so you can utilize the space more efficiently.
Install cabinets
Cabinets are a great way to get the Christmas decorations you have sitting in a box in the corner into the spot where they belong. By installing cabinets, you can create a space for all of your extra items that need a spot while staying organized. They are fairly simple to install, take up little to no garage space, and can make your garage feel much less cluttered.
Utilize overhead or ceiling space
Still need more storage after filling the walls with cabinets? Well something that many people don’t always think of as a spot to store your extra items is the space above you. Installing rafters or ceiling-mounted racks will provide you with as much extra space as you need! This ensures that your space will stay clutter-free and that your items will stay out of sight. Just make sure you are installing everything correctly so you don’t have boxes or your mounts falling from the ceiling onto your car.
Give the space a second purpose
Many people think of a garage as just a space to park your car and store your holiday decorations but it can be so much more than that! Installing a folding workbench can take up little to no space and make your garage double as a craft room or work space. Another great use for a garage is to turn it into a home gym. Make a little spot for some weights and other workout materials, and when the garage is not housing your cars you can have your own little personal gym. Garages are also convenient gyms because if you open the garage door it will ventilate itself and give you a cool space to workout.
Take up every inch of the walls
Any bare spot on the wall can be utilized as a spot to store something. Hooks, shelves, and wall organizers can easily be installed as a great spot to house some of your smaller items that may be laying around the garage. If you are using your garage as a workspace it can easily become cluttered with little tools and other materials. Using these storage systems to organizing the workspace in your garage will not only make sure it is more visually appealing but also ensure you don’t lose any of your tools or materials.
