It seems like most of us are always trying to diet, trying to eat healthier, and trying to get that perfect body that we all want. So I’m sure that you’ve tried everything and you are just feeling completely defeated and like you will never lose the weight. Well, what would you say if I told you that you can lose weight while eating a ton of FAT! Yep, that’s right. The ketogenic diet is a wildly growing diet that people are using today to lose weight and lose weight quickly! Today I am going to be talking all about what the diet actually consists of and you can decide if it is a good fit for you.
So what does it mean to eat a ketogenic diet? A keto diet for short consists of eating a very low amount of carbs, high fat, and moderate protein. It is very common when following the keto diet to drop your carbs to below 20 net carbs per day. What are net carbs you ask? You can calculate net carbs by taking your total carbs and subtracting any fiber or sugar alcohols and you will have net carbs. The amount of fat and protein you should be consuming on a keto diet depends on your gender and height and you can look that up anywhere by finding the OKL chart. Although it is common for people to drop below 20 net carbs for a keto diet, it is said that you can have success for up to 50 net carbs per day.
How do you get your body into ketosis? Putting your body into ketosis is when your body creates ketones and you begin burning ketones. On a typical American diet, our body burns glucose which we get from carbs in order to fuel our bodies for everyday activities. When you aren’t consuming a ton of carbs on a daily basis to create that glucose, your body will turn to other forms of energy and it will begin burning fat. That’s great right? Your body will start burning those fat cells and you will begin to drop the pounds quickly.
So who is the keto diet right for? Well, it may not work for everyone but the keto diet tends to be wildly successful for most people however the diet was actually created in order to help people that suffered from brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s. The ketogenic diet helps with brain health and has been said to be very beneficial for those suffering from brain diseases. Others that have great success with the keto diet are those that suffer from hypothyroidism and PCOS. These things both are related to being overweight so the keto diet is perfect for helping to fix these things.
So, is the keto diet for you? That is something that you will have to decide for yourself. If you haven’t tried anything like this before, give it a go and see if it works for you. Do what works for you and do what you need to do in order to get healthy because if you don’t have your health, you have absolutely nothing.
