While we all LOVE to have money in our pockets, the reality is-sometimes that money goes out as fast as it comes in with our family finances. Since I have been a stay at home mom, I don’t bring as much money as I used to but I still have to balance to make sure bills get paid and we still have money in case of emergencies.
Overall, I would say that I am in charge of family finances. I can admit, sometimes I overspend and then I make up for it by underspending on other items. With the start of a new school semester, I’ve also had to budget in extra as I have a 30 minute drive one way, three times a week.
When I get ahead on money, I like to pretty much “pre-pay” on bills, making payments that will give us money paid in advance. It’s somewhat nice to not have to worry about a bill for several months. I’ve done this every time I receive my financial aid disbursement for cost of living expenses.
When you think about your family finances, what do you fit in?
- Rent/Mortgage
- Utilities
- Car Payment/Insurance
- Gas/auto maintenance
- Childcare
- Groceries
- Entertainment
- Medical
Right now, my main goal with our finances is to stay afloat, probably like many with this economy. As I continue on with my school and get my health back under control to where I feel I can actually be a REAL employee, my focus will be set more in to saving money as well for the future. I plan to get debt-free so we can focus ahead and not worry about where money will come from next.
