The weather is getting warmer slowly but steadily, so naturally I’m thinking about what I can do with my kids this year. I like to have plans ready on days when they’re restless or shouting ‘I’m boooored!’. Take a look at some of my ideas and see if your family would enjoy them!
Plenty of Picnics
Me and my kids just love having picnics. I make sure to pack lots of treats, but I also pack plenty of fruit and veg too. Sometimes I try to find new and exciting places to go for our picnics. There are parks in our area, but we also enjoy going for walks and finding a nice spot to settle down.
Theme Park Visits
You can’t have a summer without a theme park visit or two. There are so many fun theme parks I find it hard to choose, so I usually let the kids vote. Either way I make sure I take plenty of supplies, as the food and drink there can be extortionate. A first aid kit is also advisable – you know what kids are like! I also have a talk with them beforehand on stranger danger. They know not to leave my side!
Walks in the Wild
Walking in the wild helps my kids to learn to love nature. They enjoy looking for little creatures and flowers, and we talk about all kinds of things. I’m sure this is one great way to help them develop as people, so I make sure we go on some great walking adventures! They know not to take anything and leave everything as they found it to help preserve the beauty. There are many gorgeous trails around our area.
Getting Back to Nature
We get back to nature with walking, sure, but what about sleeping in the environment? Camping is another fab way to help your kids develop. Try teaching them a bit about how to survive in the wild to make it interesting for them. You could pretend this is where you have to live now – they’ll love it!
Building Sandcastles
There’s nothing quite like picking a lovely day and heading over to the beach for a bit of sunshine. I love building sandcastles with my kids, having a paddle in the water, and getting something nice to eat before we leave…followed by ice cream cones of course!
Arts and Crafts
All kids should be introduced to arts and crafts at some point in their childhood. Find something they’re good at and help them to stick to it. They might enjoy making jewelry, painting pictures, or making decorations for the garden. Make a list of things they’d like to try and gather some supplies. It’ll be nice for them to do this outside on a sunny day.
How will you be spending summer with your kids this year? Please don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments – you might further inspire me! Have a wonderful summer and spend quality time with your lovely kids – they don’t stay kids for long!
