As a mom, I want my children’s imagination and curiosity to thrive, knowing it leads to growth and strength in their learning. When curiosity gets sparked, the possibilities for inspiration truly are limitless. As a parent, we are our children’s first educators and the more involved we stay, the stronger our children’s skills will grow. Taking time for the simple moments gives your child the chance to prosper in so many ways. curiousfromthestart

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt knows how important it is to keep that curiosity sparked and want to help you with the #SparkAMind Initiative. Everywhere we look, the things we do on a daily basis, if we just open our eyes to the simple things, you’d be surprised the inspiration we can find. Take the time to look around you. Maybe you are outside with your children and you can ask “Why do you think that flower is yellow?” It’s no surprise that those little minds will get to thinking and wondering just maybe, why that flower really is yellow.

It’s easy to get distracted by the stressors of life and getting overwhelmed. When we take the time to take a step back, we quickly realize how many chances for early learning their truly are. As my twins have some developmental delays, especially with their speech, it’s so great to sit and ask them questions about little things. Keeping that spark going keeps Nathan and Lucas thinking and gradually, those words coming to life.

With #SparkAMind, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will capture these moments and create a place where everyone can share ideas and find inspiring ways to spark a mind. Every time someone uses #SparkAMind, it will appear on the #SparkAMind mini-site and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will donate a children’s book to an early learning organization to help close the early education gap and prepare children for long-term success in school and in life.

If there’s one problem I’m happy our family has is that we have TOO many books. There are children’s books throughout our entire home and it makes me happy to give my children access to books, much like I had as a child. Giving my children a spark for reading keeps those little minds growing.
