Too often I hear the typical corn line about Iowa. Would it surprise you to know some common celebrity faces you see that are IOWANS?
Ashton Kutcher. This is one Iowan that many have discussed in recent weeks as he came as the “replacement” of Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men.
Shawn Johnson. Olympic Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson was born in Des Moines, Iowa before going on to become a World Champion and known gymnast. Shawn also one the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars.
John Wayne, born Marion Michael Morrison, known for many Western films, including True Grit, John Wayne was easily an American Icon. The American Film Institute has named Wayne 13th among the “Greatest Male Screen Legends of All Time”
Tom Arnold, comedian and most known for his role on Roseanne, along with marriage to Roseanne Barr, was born in Ottumwa, Iowa in 1959. Tom Arnold also appeared in True Lies along Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Stephen Collins, best known for his role as Reverend Eric Camden in the WB hit 7th Heaven, the longest running family drama in television history.
The list of Famous Iowans could go on and on but, to name a few, include:
- Herbert Hoover
- Mamie Dowd Eisenhower
- Elijah Wood
- Johnny Carson
- Simon Estes
- Kurt Warner
- Ann Landers
- Dan Gable

Very interesting! That’s quite a list of celebs coming out of the Corn State. LOL
Fun post! You can keep Ashton Kutcher though 😉
I totally did NOT know that but my mom’s from Iowa…most of my family is! So I’m an Iowa lover 🙂
I didn’t know Elijah Wood was from Iowa!
My husband works with a guy who goes back to Iowa to hunt every year. I guess it’s a bigger draw than most of us from outside the state think it is.
