Last year, we did full remote learning, unsure of how COVID-19 might impact some of our family members with pre-existing and high-risk health conditions. At the start of the pandemic, we were lucky enough that somehow when Nick tested positive but no one else in our house got sick. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for our second time dealing with COVID-19 and it has been in our family since the middle of January.
While the CDC recently changed guidelines/protocols, we chose to quarantine more in knowing it was likely to still be in “incubation”. Sure enough, one by one, every week, one of us ended up testing positive for COVID-19. Luckily, we have been fortunate enough to be able to maintain and deal with it on our own without medical intervention. While we have been lucky, that also is a scary thing in my eyes. Even with waiting, following guidelines, vaccinations, etc., COVID-19 truly impacts everyone differently. We know individuals that have been hospitalized, asymptomatic, and unfortunately, we know several individuals that have died from complications of COVID-19. Our family had a few worrisome moments, but we are coming out relatively unscathed. We will keep doing what we can to help make sure we are playing it safe so that others can do the same.
